The Supreme Court today issued notices to Telugu film actor Nandamuri Balakrishna over the issue of the subsidy provided to his film
Gautamiputra Satakarni.
The apex court asked the actor to respond to the notices and explain the decision of the makers of the movie to not reduce the ticket prices of the movie despite receiving subsidy from the Telangana and the AP governments.
Peeved at the ticket prices not being reduced, a film-goers' consumer association filed a petition in the Supreme Court that the filmmakers did not transfer the benefits of the subsidy, and urged the court to transfer the subsidy amount received by the makers to the concerned State governments.
A bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud issued the notices to Balakrishna and other respondents in the case.
Gautamiputra Satakarni was made with a huge budget as it was the 100th movie of Balakrishna, and was released on January 12, 2017. Director Krish helmed the movie. Actress Shriya played the female lead role in the movie. The shooting of the movie was completed in just 79 days.
