BJP senior leader Subramaniam Swamy on Sunday warned the Telangana Government of action under Article 256 of the Constitution if it deviated from the rules on nativity.
Speaking at an interactive session organised by Patriotic Social Media Foundation, Swamy took objection to the Telangana government raising the issue of nativity and creating fear among the people of other States living in Hyderabad.
"Telangana is a part of the Union of India and non-locals have every right to live in the State", he remarked.
"If the Telangana government tries to implement rules which are against the Constitution, then the Centre has powers to direct it to set the things right", he pointed out.
As per Article 256 of the Constitution, the executive power of every State shall be so exercised as to ensure compliance with the laws made by Parliament and any existing laws which apply in that State, and the executive power of the Union shall extend to the giving of such directions to a State as may appear to the Government of India to be necessary for that purpose.
"In case the State does not follow the directions of the Centre, the latter can use Article 356 to protect the interest of the citizens," he said.
Swamy also slammed Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa and DMK chief Karunanidhi for opposing the Sanskrit week celebrations proposed between August 7 and 13 by the Centre.
He said that all the Indian languages contain Sanskrit words, and opposition to it was highly objectionable.
"I think Jayalalitha and Karunanidhi should change their names as the names of both of them have been derived from Sanskrit," he remarked.
On the issue of the Ram Mandir, the senior BJP leader said that the majority community needed to settle this issue with the Muslims.
"I believe that the issue of Ram Mandir will be settled amicably very soon as the Babri Masjid belongs to Shia community and they have already given their consent to construct a temple at the site. Moreover, a mosque is not a religious place for Muslims but a place to facilitate prayer, and hence there should not be any problem for them to vacate the place," he observed.
On Article 370, the senior BJP leader said that just by the President's issuing a notice, the Article, granting special autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir, could be abolished.
Apollo Institute For BP Management & BP Clinics Dr C Venkata S Ram, Futuristic Cities President Karuna Gopal and foreign trade analyst and policy advisor to the Centre E Murali Darshan also spoke on the occasion. (INN)
