IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu issued a strong warning today that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt the Telangana government's comprehensive family survey.
Babu explained that the initiative, launched under the direction of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, aimed to gather social, economic and educational data to support social justice efforts targeting marginalized communities, including BC, SC and ST groups. He emphasized that spreading misinformation or obstructing the survey process would not be tolerated.
The minister criticized objections raised by BRS leaders, who questioned the need for a new survey citing data that was already available from a previous government study. Sridhar Babu countered that by saying that earlier records were analyzed according to the preferences of the previous government, differing from the current government's "unbiased" approach.
He further claimed that both the BRS and the BJP appeared concerned by the prospect of a comprehensive caste survey, which was intended to ensure justice for disadvantaged sections. Babu also accused the BJP-led Union government of neglecting social welfare, citing the over three-year delay in conducting the decennial census due in 2021, as evidence.
The minister called on both parties to clarify to the public why they were opposing the survey, which he said aimed to equitably distribute government benefits based on updated population data. He urged political leaders to embrace the survey, suggesting that their support could bolster their own political relevance.
Addressing rumours that the survey would lead to cuts in pensions or ration cards, Babu assured citizens of the government's commitment to supporting those in need, and said that the survey would only help extend benefits to eligible recipients currently missing out.
Babu also encouraged residents to remain home during the survey and cooperate with enumerators to ensure a smooth process.
