Telugu Desam Party (TDP) politburo member K Yerrannaidu on Sunday described the desecration of the statues of renowned Telugu personalities during the Million March last Thursday as 'heinous and utterly condemnable'. He alleged that the incident was nothing but a conspiracy hatched by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TPJAC) Convenor Kodandaram.
Talking to mediapersons here, Yerrannaidu said that he suspected the hand of Prof. Kodandaram behind the desecration and destruction of the statues. The senior TDP leader demanded the immediate arrest and registration of cases against the TPJAC Convener.
Yerrannaidu also took serious objection to the comment allegedly made by Prof. Kodandaram, who threatened to perform the last rites of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
Terming the comment of Kodandaram as 'unfortunate', Yerrannaidu said, "These type of comments are in violation of the Constitution of India, and are against the democratic principles and spirit of the country. How can he achieve Telangana state without having confidence in the Constitution of India?"
The senior TDP leader demanded that the state government reinstall the desecrated statues, and ensure that such actions of vandalism are not repeated. "The statues must be preserved for posterity," he added.
