Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi president Manda Krishna Madiga on Thursday demanded that the Central government expedite action on the report on categorisation of Scheduled Castes in Andhra Pradesh.
The report, Krishna Madiga stated, has been pending with it for the past few years.
Talking to media persons, Krishna Madiga appealed to the chief minister K Rosaiah to take an all-party delegation to New Delhi to and urge prime minister Manmohan Singh to act over the issue.
He also urged Rosaiah to ask the Centre to introduce the Constitution Amendment Bill in the winter session of Parliament.
Krishna Madiga said the report of the Usha Mehra Commission on the categorisation of Scheduled Castes of Andhra Pradesh (into groups A, B, C and D) was sent to the Union cabinet by the then minister for social justice and empowerment Meira Kumar, and that it has been pending with it ever since.
He said the classification would enable a large number of the Scheduled Castes to get their due share of reservation.
Krishna Madiga warned that the Porata Samithi would intensify its agitation in the state and obstruct the chief minister's convoy whenever it can.
He said the Porata Samithi would organise a massive convention at Nizam College Grounds in the city on December 4 to create awareness on the issue among people.
