Hyderabad | 25th December 2014
The most important and major festival of the Sikh community across the world, the birthday celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th and last Sikh Guru and founder of the Khalsa Panth, will take place in Telangana from December 26 to 28.

In this connection, Central Gurudwara Saheb Gowliguda Prabhandak Committee President S Tirlok Singh informed that a mass "Nagar Keertan" (Holy Procession) would be taken out on a grand scale on December 26 at around 4:30 pm from the Central Gurudwara Saheb Gowliguda, and would pass through Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha, Guru Nanak Marg, Ashok Bazar, Afzalgunj, Siddiamber bazar, M J Market, Jambagh and Putlibowli, and return to the Gurudwara Saheb in the evening.

Over 20,000 devotees are likely to take part in the procession.

Guru Granth Saheb (the revered Holy Scripture of the Sikhs) will be carried on a beautifully decorated vehicle along with "Nishaan Sahebans" (religious flags).

The procession will be marked by the rendering of Shabad Keertans (holy hymns) by the Jatha Tera Jatha and Keerthani Jathas of men, women and youth.

Besides that "Panj Pyaras" (five beloved ones) in their traditional attire will be the cynosure of all eyes all along the procession.

The major attraction of the procession will be the display of "Gatka", a famous Sikh martial art form, and other breathtaking sword exercises all along the procession by Dashmesh Kalgidhar Jatha. Other special Gatka parties will also exhibit their Gatka skills.

As the main birthday celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh fall on December 28, a "Vishaal Deewan" will be held at the Central Gurdwara Saheb Gowliguda from 10 am to 4 pm on the day, where over 30,000 Sikh devotees and others will converge.

The event will be marked by recitations of Gurbani Keertans (holy hymns) by reputed Ragi Jathas (religious preachers) who are being specially invited from various parts of the country to render shabad keertans.

Sant Baba Baljit Singhi (Daduwalwale), Bhai Jeevan Singh Khalsa (Ludhianawale, Punjab), Bhai Hari Singh, Bhai Chain Singh and other reputed Ragi Jathas will recite shabad keertans and kathas, and throw light on the teachings of the Sikh Gurus.

After the culmination of the congregation, Guru Ka Langar (free community kitchen) will serve food to the devotees.

On December 27, "Amrit Sanchaar" (holy baptism) will be organised at the Gurdwara premises at 11 am. Interested persons can enroll their names with the Gurdwara's Head Granthi. (INN)
