Welcoming the decision taken by Congress President Sonia Gandhi that every Pradesh Congress Committee would bear the cost of the rail travel of every needy worker and migrant labourer of that state, former minister and ex-Leader Of Opposition in the Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir announced that he would bear the travel cost of all the migrant workers in the Kamareddy district once the railways finalized special trains for them.
Speaking to the media in Kamareddy on Monday, Shabbir Ali said that the decision taken by Sonia Gandhi was revolutionary and would help lakhs of migrant workers who were stranded in different parts of the country due to the lockdown.
He said that although the Central government had decided to run special trains, it was charging exorbitantly from the migrant workers who had been jobless since March 22. Therefore, the decision taken by the Congress President would immediately resolve the problems being faced by those workers, he said.
In that context, he added that he would bear the rail travel cost of all the migrant workers stranded in his Kamareddy district.
The Congress leader said that morally the Central government should have arranged free transport for all the stranded workers, students and tourists. He lamented that the BJP government could spent Rs 151 crore to transport crowds for the Namaste Trump programme, but would not spend money for the poor migrant workers who wanted to return to their homes. Many of them had lost their lives by walking hundreds of kilometres due to the "ill-planned" lockdown by the BJP government due to having no food, no money and no medicines, he claimed.
Later, the Congress leader also distributed food and other essential items to auto-drivers in Bhiknoor mandal. Speaking there, he demanded that the state government hasten up the corona relief measures. He also said that the enumeration of the losses caused to the crops due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms must be completed at the earliest and all affected farmers be paid adequate compensation.
