Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today claimed that Telangana was the only State in the nation to waive off maximum crop loans of farmers which amounted to Rs. 16,500 crores.
During a short discussion on loan waivers during the State Assembly session, the Chief Minister stated that the State government had kept up its end of the promise and cleared 75% of farmer loans so far, and the rest would be waived off during the next budget session.
He spoke about the commitment of the TRS government towards farmers and pointed out that it waived Rs. 16,500 crores out of Rs. 17,500 crores so far. The government would release the rest at an appropriate time and there was no need for farmers to panic, KCR promised. The CM also said that after assuming power, the TRS had cleared Rs. 480 crores towards arrears in the farming sector and also released input subsidy to farmers.
His reply comes as Opposition Leader K Jana Reddy had criticized the TRS government on its "failure" to clear loan arrears at a single go.
Meanwhile, Congress leader N Uttam Kumar Reddy, BJP member G Kishen Reddy and others spoke on the issue and flayed the government for allegedly diverting Central funds to other schemes, and sought to know whether the loan waiver amount released had reached the beneficiaries.
After that, KCR slammed the Congress and the TDP for allegedly placing false blames on the government at every turn. He advised Opposition parties to refrain from making baseless allegations on the loan waiver scheme. He promised that the waiver found its way to the farmers' accounts and offered to show evidence.
The government was ready to clarify all doubts and give information on key issues provided the Opposition cooperated, KCR promised.
