Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) President K Chiranjeevi, who had earlier launched a scathing attack against Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu, and accused him of playing 'opportunistic politics' and using farmers as 'pawns' in his bid to wrest power, did a 'U-turn' and appealed to the government to help the rain-hit farmers.
Chiranjeevi appealed to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to rise up above politics and consider the hunger fast launched by Naidu on humanitarian grounds, so that he could take a favourable decision on announcing better financial package for rain-hit farmers.
Talking to media persons after enquiring with the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences' doctors about the deteriorating health condition of Naidu, the PRP leader said that the state government should make efforts to solve the imbroglio immediately considering the Opposition leader's health.
Chiranjeevi said that the government should give up its adamant attitude in addressing the farmers' woes and come out with adequate relief package for hapless farmers.
He said an all-party meeting should take a unanimous decision on farmers' issue and mount pressure on the state government to respond favourably to Naidu's agitation.
