Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal today said that draft electoral rolls should be published by October 3, and that electoral registration officers should dispose of the pending application forms 6, 7, 8 and 8 (a) by September 23.
Bhanwarlal held a review meeting with electoral registration officers (EROs), in which Navin Mittal (District Election Officer and Special Commissioner, GHMC), along with D Jayaraj Kennedy (Additional Commissioner, Elections) and K Ashok Reddy (Additional Commissioner, IT) attended.
The CEO directed all the EROs to write letters to the administrators of colleges (Intermediate and above) in their jurisdiction to submit details of students - including date of birth and availability of election photo identity cards.
He also directed the EROs to coordinate with the college administrators, to get them to depute staff members for cross-verification of enrolled students and the inclusion of fresh names in the electoral rolls.
Bhanwarlal asked all Election Officers (ROs) to upload the affidavits of candidates elected from 2004 onwards on the Election Commission's website. Stating that the Kerala government had announced that all its applications were received online, the CEO asked why this has not been tried in Hyderabad.
Navin Mittal said that there are, on an average, 1,000 voters in each polling station, and that political parties were involved extensively in settling several issues regarding electoral rolls.
Mittal also said that electoral rolls were cross-checked with property tax details, and vice-versa.
The CEO also requested the District Election Officer and Special Commissioner, GHMC, to cross-check of electoral rolls with property tax details in Ranga Reddy. (INN)
