President Ram Nath Kovind today said that IIT Hyderabad should become a hub of innovation and research, and the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the region. It should also work collaboratively in its research for the benefit of the country and the society, he said.
Kovind delivered the convocation address at IIT Hyderabad's 7th convocation. 566 students (435 boys & 131 girls) graduated on the occasion. Kovind congratulated the graduating students and also commended the IIT on completing 10 years. He also said that it was encouraging to see that one in every five of those graduating today was a girl.
Governor E S L Narasimhan, Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali and minister T Harish Rao were also present.
The convocation robe of the President is a special weave called jacard, with an ekat design. It is unique to the Telangana region.
With 2,550 students of whom 20% are women, and with 190 faculty members across 14 departments, IIT Hyderabad has been rated among the top 10 technology institutions by the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the MHRD.
