Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar today challenged BRS leaders to an open debate on the funds spent on the Backward Classes (BCs) over the last ten years.
The Opposition members raised a question in the Legislative Council about the construction of community buildings for BCs. In response, the minister criticised the BRS for shedding crocodile tears for the BCs.
He said that although the BRS government had allocated Rs 8,000 crore to the BCs during its ten-year rule, only Rs 2,000 crore had been released, and not a single rupee had been spent on BC schemes or for the welfare of BCs aside from that. He said that he was ready to prove that and discuss the topic with anyone in the House.
On the contrary, the Congress government was seriously working for the development of BCs, and was committed to implementing the BC Declaration announced by the party during the Assembly elections in Kamareddy, he said.
As part of its efforts a caste census was being conducted to ensure reservations accordingly, he said. The government would also definitely construct the 42 sanctioned community buildings, he added.
