Co-chairman of the Telangana Congress campaign committee and former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy today expressed his displeasure over the report of the officials of the revenue department and the Nagarjuna Sagar Project that 21 guntas of the project land had been encroached upon by his brother Prasad Reddy and him for the construction of the S R Gardens Function Hall in the Khammam district headquarters.
Ponguleti spoke to the media on the issue and wondered why there were different kinds of justice for him when he was in the BRS and after he had joined the Congress.
Referring to the allegations of the revenue department officials, he said that it was absurd to even allege that a person of his stature had encroached upon 20 guntas of government land.
Claiming that his family members had 130 acres of land in the same area, Reddy alleged that he was being deliberately harassed by the State government.
"How can there suddenly be a problem now that has not existed for 14 years? The State government is angry with me due to the grand success of the Congress' recent public meeting in Khammam," he said, and claimed that the allegations were being levelled against him by the ruling party leaders out of frustration as the Congress' popularity was increasing in Telangana with each passing day and the BRS leaders were afraid of the Congress after getting clear indications about the return of the latter to power in Telangana.
Reddy said that he would fight the State government through the courts.
Meanwhile, Ponguleti visited Gandhi Bhavan today for the first time after joining the Congress. He met with TPCC chief Revanth Reddy on the occasion and thanked him for appointing him as the co-chairman of the TPCC publicity committee within days of joining the party.
