Policy To Protect Small Vendors From Corrupt Cops
Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy said a new policy to protect unorganised sector workers from corrupt traffic cops will soon be introduced.
Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy has announced that the State government is formulating a new policy to prevent the exploitation of small vendors and other workers in the unorganised sectors from corrupt officials, especially the police.
Speaking to INN on the sidelines of a workshop on the Metropolis at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) on Tuesday, Nayani, who also holds the labour portfolio, admitted that pushcart vendors, auto-rickshaw drivers and other workers in the unorganised sectors were being harrassed by corrupt police officials, especially those from the traffic wing.
He said that corruption was one of the major reasons that these people from the unorganised sectors were unable to improve their economic conditions. A major share of their earnings gets snatched away by the traffic police by way of bribes or through official challans.
Therefore, the government was coming up with a new policy to end corruption at these levels, Nayani said.
The Minister claimed that the new policy is being drafted as per the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao as he was quite concerned about the welfare of the people working in the unorganised sectors. (INN)
