At least 31 people have been arrested in Hyderabad allegedly for stealing mobile phones.
A total of 713 cell phones, two computers, a laptop, a scooter and an auto-rickshaw were seized from the gang.
The thieves have been remanded to police custody.
The police said that the value of the seized phones was Rs 2 crore.
Earlier this month, unidentified miscreants had killed a businessman in the Langarhouse area in Old City. During investigation, it was found that two thieves had killed the trader. When they were taken into custody and interrogated, the ring of cell phone thieves came to light.
It turned out that the thieves were stealing the phones and handing them over to another gang, which was selling the phones in African countries. While 15 of the arrested people stole cell phones, another 16 purchased them and sold them in other countries.
According to the police, the accused stole expensive phones of brands including Apple, Samsung, Vivo, Realme, OnePlus and Oppo. It turned out that the buyers had earlier purchased the stolen phone from the thieves and encouraged them to commit more thefts.
