Lok Satta chief Jaya Prakash Narayan, who has met the PM Manmohan Singh, has told the media that the PM has assured the MPs that all stakeholders’ concerns will be taken into account before taking a final decision on Telangana.
JP says that Chidambaram’s announcement on Telangana was a statement of intent made under pressure, and that what the Centre did at the time was done in the right intention - to contain the agitation in AP. There was no way it could be forcibly imposed on citizens, however, he said. Appointing Zilla Councils and announcing packages for the region were the concrete steps that could actually be taken to placate all views on the issue, especially since it is not ethical for the Centre either to go back on its word.
JP expressed confidence that the Centre would surely do justice to all regions and find an appropriate solution to the dispute.
