Criticising the remarks made by Seemandhra leaders against the demands made by people from Telangana for changes in the design of the Polavaram Irrigation project, Telangana Congress leader and MLC KR Amos on Tuesday stated that the Telangana people were not against Polavaram project.
Talking to media persons at the media point in CLP Office, the MLC stated that the Seemandhra leaders had misunderstood the Telangana people's demand over the implementation of Polavaram project.
The MLC's comments are seen to assuage the fears of Seemandhra leaders who apprehend that the leaders from Telangana are against the implementation of Polavaram irrigation project, especially in the light of an argument between the MPs of the 2 regions on the issue in New Delhi on Monday.
"We are asking for changes in the design of Polavaram irrigation project as it submerges large tracts of lands in tribal areas of Telangana region. That's why, we raised objection over the project. If the design of the project is changed and steps are taken to reduce submergence of tribal areas in the backwaters of Godavari, there is no objection from our side," Amos stated.
"We never interfered in sharing of water with Seemandhra people, and there is no objection for construction of project with the recommended changes in its design," the MLC clarified.
Amos also condemned the allegedly derogatory remarks made by MP K Sambhasiva Rao against tribals, and sought apology from him. The MLC also found flaw with the MP for making unsavoury comments against Telangana senior leader and MP K Kesava Rao during MPs meeting on Polavaram project in New Delhi. Sambhasiva Rao had allegedly stated that Kesava Rao was not suitable for Congress Working Committee membership.
Amos demanded that Sambhasiva Rao withdraw his comments against Rao and issued an apology to Telangana people.
