Film actor Pawan Kalyan launched his new party, Jana Sena, amid much fanfare, at HICC in Hyderabad on Friday. The event was marked by high-level security measures in place throughout the day.
There was a lot of fan frenzy at the venue, as hordes of people gathered to hear him speak. The audience comprised largely of members of fan associations.
The 43-year-old star made it clear he was targeting the Congress, as his 130-minute speech mainly consisted of bashing the Congress and its policies. He spoke at length about his views on the recent Telangana agitation, maintaining that it was politicians who had incited bitter feelings among people of the two regions. He said the Congress had split the state purely due to political reasons.
He referred to pages of a script while talking, breaking into "punch dialogues" and high-pitched emotional outbursts at times, much to the delight of the raucous crowd.
His "Congress Hatao" calls were more than well-received, with the audience joining in. He in fact said he is ready to join hands with any party in order to topple the Congress.
However, Pawan Kalyan also said he would not be contesting the elections this time.
