The State Election Commission today said that elections for the GHMC are to be held using paper ballots.
The majority of the political parties had vouched for ballot type polling for the elections for the civic body, the poll body said.
The Election Commission called a meeting of 50 political parties, and 26 of them gave their opinions, with a majority reportedly preferring the ballot method of voting. Only 3 parties preferred EVMs, the SEC said.
The current term of GHMC expires on February 10, and the elections would need to be held well in advance, the Commission said. To that effect, it has asked the officials concerned to make the necessary arrangements for the fair conduct of the elections.
The officials are now on the job of setting up polling centres for the elections.
The officials say that about 10,000 polling stations will be required for the elections.
