The Public Accounts Committee of the state Legislative Assembly, on Thursday, visited the properties allotted to the Emaar group and other companies, in Ranga Reddy and Medak districts.
The PAC members, led by R Prakash Reddy, inspected land allotted for the setting up a beer factory, at Qutubullapur, in Sangareddy mandal of Medak district. The farmers there complained to the PAC that their lands were acquired on the promise of them being provided with jobs and adequate compensation. However, neither compensation was paid nor jobs were given to them, they said.
Several others, too, complained that the PAC had not spoken to them earlier. A representative of victims, Kadiala Rajendra, said that it would be difficult for the PAC to get a correct picture of Emaar's irregularities if it confines its probe to site visits. He requested that the PAC, instead, speak to the victims. He said that the CBI, in its probe, had alleged large-scale irregularities by the Emaar group, and that based on its findings, victims should be given justice. (INN)
