With Ramzan just days away, eminent Muslim leader MP and MIM head Asaduddin Owaisi today appealed to the Muslim community in Telangana to conduct prayers at home this year.
With the imposition of a
second lockdown in Telangana, people will likely have no chance to celebrate the festival on a large scale. However, the MP still took to Twitter to request the Muslims in the state to "offer prayers at their homes for the holy Ramzan festival".
He also suggested that they adhere strictly to all the prescribed Covid-19 safety protocols during the celebrations.
The MIM chief has reportedly been opposed to the implementation of a second lockdown from the get-go, citing that this will deprive the poor of their work and livelihoods.
This year, Ramzan is to be observed either on May 13 or 14, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Ahead of the festival, Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali recently flagged off the
distribution of 2,500 ration kits that would be given to poor Muslim households in the state. The Wakf Board and the TRS government had decided to distribute kits, each containing 10kg of rice, 5kg of wheat flour, 1 kg of sugar and 1 kg oil, and to distribute free clothes to the economically disadvantaged Muslims at all the mosques in the state.
