This year, Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations will commence on September 10 and will conclude with the ceremonial idol immersion on September 19.
With experts warning the nation about the occurrence of a possible third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, various festival committees in Telangana are already busy taking steps to ensure that the festivities are conducted in a "Covid appropriate" way.
In Hyderabad, Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi General Secretary Bhagawanth Rao said that the body would take all the precautions required to conduct the celebrations in a safe manner and that the samithi office would open on July 23 to begin to devise a plan for the same.
Rao then requested the Telangana government to provide the raw material needed for the festival on time, and added, "We are using 24 types of medicinal plants for the celebrations this year. While we are making efforts to ensure that the festival is observed in a safe manner amidst the ongoing pandemic, I would also urge the GHMC authorities to do their bit to make the celebration a success. I would request them to spruce up all the roads within the city limits before the idol immersion program. I would urge them also to also take steps to provide stable power to the pandals being set up for the festival," he added.
Further, Rao urged Ganesh devotees in the city not to focus on the height of the Ganesh idols but on following all the Covid-19 safety norms instead.
