Women's organizations are staging a protest against the
Osmania University lathicharge incident on Sunday, at the Hussain Sagar. Activists are demanding that action be taken against those responsible.
Sunday's violent spurt on the campus has resulted in much ire all over, for two reasons - the beating up of journalists, and the use of force against women. Yesterday the Assembly saw a ruckus over opposition parties refusing to let the CM or the home minister address the House.
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has already started its probe into the attack, and spoke to injured students at Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital. According to the High Court's orders, police personnel have been withdrawn from the campus, which remained calm on Tuesday.
In the Legislative Assembly, the Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy issued a statement regarding the incident, in which she said necessary action will be taken. She said students and journalists were injured in the incident. She also narrated the sequence of events in detail, in which she said the police also suffered injuries at the hands of stone-pelting students who were becoming impossible to control.
Nagam Janardhan Reddy demanded an explanation as to why the police were in the campus in the first place and why the place was being turned into a police camp.
