Following the lathicharge at Osmania University, The Andhra Pradesh High Court ordered the state government to move out all paramilitary and special forces deployed on campus. Justice L Narasimha Reddy criticized the police for the action it took on students.
S Satyam Reddy, the counsel for the 4 petitioners who moved a lunch motion challenging the entry of policemen into the campus, said that the police action was totally unprobvoled and indiscriminate, and that it was aimed at creating terror in the minds of students. He added that girl students also were badly abused.
The court said that to keep peace in he university, an adequate number of civil police personnel should be deployed in the university police station. The High Court also asked students not to disrupt classes and exams and warned them that action would be taken on them if they resort to acts of criminal intimidation or violence.
Monday saw quite a bit of violence at the campus, after Sunday's lathicharge incident that left 20 students and 5 journalists injured. An agitated police force battled stone-pelting students, and resorted to tear gas shells. An ABN Andhra Jyothi reporter M Narsinga Rao was thrashed up by the police as well.
Rapid Action Forces and Greyhounds personnel were all present at the scene.
On the whole, 17 OU students were shifted to Dugrabai Deshmukh Hospital for treatment.
