Osmania University students today launched a protest against the shifting of the 105th Indian Science Congress from the university.
Alleging that the event was being shifted to another university due to the inefficiency of the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar and the state government, the students staged a dharna at the administrative block.
The agitation relates to the decision of the Indian Science Congress Association to shift the venue from Osmania University to Manipur Central University. Due to disturbances in the university following the suicide of an M Sc student recently, the Vice-Chancellor had asked the Indian Science Congress Association to postpone the event to a later date.
The Association, however, cancelled the venue altogether and allotted the event to the Manipur Central University.
Meanwhile, there were rumours in the university that the Vice-Chancellor S Ramachandram and the Registrar Ch Gopal Reddy had tendered their resignations.
