Maoists resorted to firing in Veerapuram village in Pinapaka mandal of the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, and in Sundarayya Nagar in Bhadrachalam, late Friday night.
One person was reportedly killed and another injured as a result of the attacks by the rebels.
The extremists belonging to the Communist Party of India (Maoist) shot P Jogaiah in Veerapuram village at close range, causing his death on the spot. They also opened fire on one Ramesh at Suryanagar in Bhadrachalam town. Ramesh received bullet injuries on his hand as a result of the attack, and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
It is being said that both Jogaiah and Ramesh were former Maoists. The police are of the opinion that the duo were attacked as the Maoists suspected them to be acting as police informers.
Meanwhile, the rebels also burnt down four lorries and two JCBs at Bhupatiraopet in the district. They reportedly abducted two workers - who were later released - from one of the trucks, and left behind a letter in which they said that their action was in protest against the illegal sand mining in the area.
Police suspect that a group of around 40 Maoists divided themselves into three groups to carry out the attacks.
