Commemorating the fights of the Gundrampally villagers against the Razakars, BJP national president Amit Shah asked the present rulers whether their governance was in tune with the martyrs' aims.
On the third day of his tour in Nalgonda district, Shah visited Gundrampally village. He walked the dalit streets in the village and enquired about the well-being of the families living there. He went door-to-door talking about the national schemes of the BJP and their benefits.
Later he addressed a booth-level activists' meeting. He said that Gundrampally had a great history with several revered personalities of the village waging relentless fights against the Razakars and entering the annals of the history. He said that the Razakars had behaved like monsters, and that Gundrampally had a history of chasing away such monsters. Telangana became a part of India with the efforts of the such brave people, he said.
But the history of Gundrampally had all but disappeared from public memory, and there was a need to bring it back, he said. And it was time for the descendants of the people who waged a movement for liberty from the Razakars to ask themselves if the present rule was in tune with what the martyrs had fought for. Only a BJP regime could bring in a rule in Telangana reflecting the ideals of the martyrs, he said.
He said that some reporters had asked him what the point was of remembering the atrocities of the Razakars now. "And I know who is forcing those reporters to ask these questions. It is the handiwork of the Congress and TRS parties," he said.
He made it clear that for the BJP bringing the history of Gundrampally to light would be an important task since it showed respect to all of Telangana's people.
Earlier, BJP state president Dr K Laxman said that the Congress leaders were shocked at the response to Shah's tour. PCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy was speaking a lot about it, he said, showing how much they were thinking about it. The Congress leaders were not able to digest the increasing warmth for the BJP in Telangana, he claimed. He asked them to stop making low-level comments and tender apologies to the families of the Razakars' victims instead for the insensitivity they were displaying.
Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said that his party wanted to start its winning streak from Gundrampally village, since it was an exemplar of the Telangana people's capability to fight against autogratic regimes, and there was one in power right now.
