No Telecast Of Wedding Of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita At Bhadrachalam

The Election Commission has refused permission for the live broadcast of the hugely popular ritual performed on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami.
Hyderabad | 16th April 2024
The Election Commission Of India has refused to give permission for the live broadcast of the celestial wedding of Lord Rama and goddess Sita which is to be performed in the famed Bhadrachalam temple on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami on Wednesday.

In line with the age-old tradition, the annual mega religious event will be held at Bhadrachalam tomorrow, and the muthyala talambralu and pattuvastrams will be presented to the divine couple on behalf of the State government.

The wedding is witnessed by a heavy turnout of devotees every year. Millions of other people watch the grand ritual through live telecast. However, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) refusing to give permission for the live telecast due to the election code, devotees across the world are now disappointed.

In view of the importance of celestial event, the State government had written a letter to the Election Commission last month seeking special permission for its live telecast. However, the request was rejected by the Election Commission on April 4.

The State government made another attempt and wrote another letter on April 6, asking the EC to reconsider its request. In the letter, the State government mentioned that live broadcast was being done since 1987. It also pointed out that even though the election code was in force in 2019, the Sri Venkateswara Bhakthi channel had broadcast the ritual live, and that the commentary of the wedding was broadcast on radio too.

But the ECI has again refused permission for the live telecast, disappointing devotees.
