The Telangana government today took a decision to cancel the SSC examinations in the state and use grading to promote the students to the next level due to the coronavirus spread and the resultant lockdown.
In a meeting at Pragathi Bhavan with Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and other officials on the key issue, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao decided to promote the Class X students to Intermediate without conducting examinations.
In doing this, the Chief Minister decided to follow other states which opted for a similar method.
Officials will now offer grading to the students based on internal marks.
District education officials have reportedly already submitted information of the students needed to grade them and decide on their promotions, to the government.
The government had recently deferred the examinations after the High Court gave permission for them with some conditions. Barring in the GHMC limits and Ranga Reddy district, the court had allowed the SSC examinations to be conducted.
So far only three exams of two subjects have been conducted, and the rest were postponed following court orders.
There are a total of 5,34,903 10th class students of the state board in the state, and they were supposed to write 11 exams for six subjects.
On the degree and PG examinations, the government will take a call based on how conditions evolve.
