Setting a good precedent, the education ministers of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Monday shared a common platform and explained their plans for the education sector in their respective States.
The occasion was the release of the PGECET results.
Addressing a joint press conference, the ministers said that efforts would be made to increase the literacy rates in both the Telugu-speaking States.
The Telangana Education Minister Jagadishwara Reddy said that the TRS government would soon announce its policy on free and compulsory KG to PG education.
He said that the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would take the final decision on the fee reimbursement scheme.
Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao informed that the TDP government had planned to establish a network of educational institutions in the residuary State.
He said that the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu had instructed the ministers and officials to work towards achieving 100% literacy in Andhra Pradesh.
He said that a new education policy would be framed after reviewing the existing infrastructure and facilities in the education sector.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education, Prof L Venugopal Reddy, complained about the shortage of staff in the State's universities.
He said that the standards of education could not be improved without the required staff and infrastructure.
Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof S Satyanarayana said that the OU was aiming for the position of the top university in the country.
