Nehru Zoological Park authorities, on Tuesday, were making frantic efforts to get Forest Minister P Ramachandra Reddy to be a part of the Zoo’s 47th anniversary celebrations which fall on Wednesday.
Zoo Curator MA Waheed said that in event of the inability of the Forests Minister to be able to make it to the celebrations, Chief Wildlife Warden Hitesh Malhotra (IFS) will inaugurate the various programmes organized for the event. Other senior Forest Department officials are also expected to attend the functions at around 2 pm.
As a part of celebrations, the zoo authorities have planned competitions for visitors in various disciplines like painting, quiz, animals watching and various others.
The zoo was established on October 6th, 1963 with extreme care taken to include maximum natural surroundings for the animals. There are 132 species of animals in the zoo brought from various states and countries, with some African animals being the main attractions.
