The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has launched its own enquiry into the recent murder of N Ramyasri, a 20-year-old third year B Tech student from Guntur.
Commission Vice-Chairman Arun Halder, who visited the victim's family along with other NCSC officials today, said that an investigation was being conducted into the incident.
Speaking to the media after meeting Ramya's family, Halder said that all the steps required to ensure the punishment of the guilty would be taken by the NCSC.
The commission has already begun to make enquiries about the circumstances that led to the murder. It is also looking into the steps taken by the Andhra Pradesh government to address the shocking incident that took place on August 15.
Meanwhile, some activists of the BJP Mahila Morcha held a protest demanding that the police allow them to meet the commission members enquiring into the murder. However, they were not allowed to do so.
When the activists tried to barge towards the building where the members are staying, the police reportedly forcefully stopped them from proceeding. This confrontation led to a mild stampede in the area and a BJP activist, identified as Nalini, fell unconscious in the rush.
On August 16, the police had
arrested one Sashi Krishna who was accused of murdering the girl.
Talking about the case, police personnel had said, ""Ramyasri, a Dalit girl, was murdered by Sashi Krishna. He is currently in our custody. The victim and Krishna (the accused) had gotten in touch with each other through Instagram. They had been chatting for the last six months. Soon after they started talking, however, the accused began to harass Ramyasri at the local bus stand. He began to demand that she enter into a romantic relationship with him. That is when the girl stopped talking to him. She stopped contacting him some two months ago as his behaviour turned from bad to worse. Krishna then began to threaten the victim that he would murder her if she refused his advances."
They had also revealed that they had found six stab wounds on the body of the victim and that she had breathed her last while being shifted to the Guntur Government Hospital.
