Former MP and TDP senior leader Nama Nageshwara Rao will contest the Palair Assembly constituency by-election against TRS candidate and Telangana Roads & Buildings minister Thummala Nageshwara Rao.
TDP Khammam district party leaders today held a meeting at the party office and unanimously elected Nama as the party candidate for the Palair seat. Palair constituency leaders and workers also attended the meeting.
Nama Nageshwara Rao was also leader of the Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party (TDPP) in the 16th Lok Sabha (2009-2014).
Nama's main competitor, Thummala Nageshwara Rao, a Khammam strongman, is currently an MLC, and is also ex-TDP - he had moved to the TRS in 2014, interestingly, unhappy with the rise of Nama, an industrialist and contractor with deep pockets, in the TDP's Khammam unit.
The by-election for the Palair seat will be held on May 16.
