Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's today held a meeting with ministers and national Polavaram project officials, and asked them to expedite the process and finish it by 2018.
Speaking at the meeting, officials including contractors, service providers, ministers and engineers briefed Naidu on the progress of the project in their respective fields.
After the briefing, the AP CM expressed dissatisfaction over the tardy pace of work and ordered them to expedite the process, as the government had already removed most of the hurdles in their way.
He also pledged total support to the officials and asked them to keep him updated on the progress and problems encountered during the construction of the project. He warned them against irregularities and excuses.
The multi purpose Polavaram project, funded by the Modi-led government, has been facing several administrative and political roadblocks, including opposition from the YSR Congress and loan issues from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
The CM had told NABARD that a total of Rs. 40,000 crores was required for project, out of which Rs. 20,000 crore alone is for the acquisition of 1 lakh acres of land in East and West Godavari.
The NABARD asked the AP government to give a proper estimate of the total loan amount needed to take up the project, so that it could forward the same to the Centre.
Naidu however told the meeting that the government would clear the administrative hurdles soon enough, and asked them to go ahead with the works.
