On the last day of nomination filing for the upcoming Nagarjuna Sagar by-election, many candidates were seen rushing to file their papers.
While Congress candidate K Jana Reddy filed his nomination at the Nidamanoor Tehsildar's office, the TRS' Nomula Bhagath, who was accompanied by a swarm of supporters and several party leaders including G Jagadish Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Mohammad Mahmood Ali, also filed his nomination papers at the Nidamanoor Returning Officer's office.
The BJP candidate for the election, Ravi Naik, and the TDP's Muvva Aruna Kumari too made a beeline to file their papers.
Unlike other years, however, the candidates were unable to take out rallies after completing the filing formalities due to the
prevailing Covid-19 situation in Telangana - the state currently has more than 4,000 active cases.
The completion of the nomination filing procedures marks the start of the campaigning period. Leaders of the saffron party and the TRS are already in Nagarjuna Sagar for the same.
In fact, the BJP, after performing rather poorly in the recent MLC elections, has
enlisted a troop of powerful campaigners to help it clinch the seat. The 30-member team of star campaigners includes state party chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar, national Vice-President D K Aruna, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy, and firebrand MLAs Raja Singh and M Raghunandan Rao.
