The Telangana leader is set to convene a mega-meeting with pro-Telangana activists - a meeting that is creating waves within the TDP.
Hyderabad | 9th May 2011
With the eventful Kadapa by-elections being the only issue that the people of Andhra cared about, the Telangana issue was forced to take a backseat for over a month. With the by-polls in the Kadapa constituency out of the way, the demand for a separate Telangana is slowly, but steadily, making its way to the forefront.
And Nagam Janardhan Reddy, a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader who is a staunch supporter of the separate statehood demand, is the torch-bearer of the present wave of Telangana agitations.
The Telangana leader is set to convene a mega-meeting with pro-Telangana activists at Nagarkurnool later today - a meeting that is creating waves within the TDP.
A meeting convened by TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday morning reached the conclusion that 3 MLAs, namely Ramulu, Ravulu and Jaipal Yadav, would accompany Nagam to his meet, but that Naidu himself would not grace the event with his presence.
It was also decided that a separate TDP wing would be formed to fight for the cause of Telangana. Errabelli Dayakar Rao, a senior TDP leader, stated that a meeting would be convened by the party members on Tuesday to finalize the finer details of the Telangana wing, which is expected to be formed in entirety in 3 days.
The Telangana TDP Forum members also met on Monday morning to debate about whether they should attend Nagam's event.
On a different note, the TDP leaders belonging to Backward Classes (BC) have expressed their displeasure over Nagam's meet, and these condemnations were rubbished by Nagam's supporters, who confidently state that leaders of all communities are supportinh Nagam.
Meanwhile, the venue of Nagam's meet is a bee-hive of activity, with workers busily erecting the shamiana, hoisting the required banners and setting up the stage. The followers of Nagam say that they expect atleast one lakh attendees to gather for the event.
