The Model Code of Conduct has come into force, with the Election Commission formally issuing the much-expected notification for conducting by-elections to the 12 vacant assembly seats in Telangana region on Friday.
The Model Code of Conduct will be applicable in districts where whole or any part of the assembly constituency faces bye-elections. It will be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the state government, and also to the Union government as far as the state is concerned.
Talking to media persons, Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao said that the by-polls would be conducted in Sirpur, Chennur (SC), Mancherial, Yellareddy, Nizamabad (Urban), Korutla, Dharmapuri (SC), Huzurabad, Siddipet and Warangal West, Vemulawada and Sircilla.
The last date of filing of nominations is July 9, and the scrutiny of nominations will take place on July 10. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is July 12, and voting will take place on July 27.
The voting will start from 7am and continue till 5pm. Counting of votes will take place on July 30, from 8am onwards. Voting will take place through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Subba Rao said that adequate numbers of EVMs have been procured, and that all other steps taken to ensure smooth conduct of the voting process.
