Hyderabad | 2nd February 2016
The last hour of the GHMC elections saw some serious incidents of physical attacks as leaders and workers of the TRS, MIM and Congress came to blows in separate incidents in the Old City that led to tensions spiralling, compelling the police to deploy additional forces at sensitive areas.
Malakpet MLA and MIM leader Ahmed Balala reportedly saw Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahamood's son Azam Ali and his supporters grouped outside the Deputy CM's residence at Azampura, and went up and started a war of words. That quickly turned into a war of fists, with Balala and his men beating up Azam Ali and his supporters and chasing them. The latter were rescued by the security men posted outside the Deputy CM's home.
The police took Balala into custody for the attack.
Balala was also involved in another physical attack during the day, on Mohammed Gouse Khan, a 2-time corporator who had recently shifted to the Congress from the MLA.
Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy and Transport Minister Mahender Reddy visited Mahamood Ali's house and consoled him. Narasimha Reddy condemned the attack and vowed to take serious action against those involved, saying there was enough evidence.
