The infuriating berating and denigrating of two police constables yesterday night (the early hours of Tuesday) by Bholapur corporator Mohammed Ghousuddin, belonging to the MIM, has landed him in jail.
Things would have been helped by IT minister K T Rama Rao directly asking Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy to take stern action against the corporator, who was caught on camera abusing and threatening police personnel.
In a tweet, the Minister asked the DGP to take stern action against the individuals who obstructed police officers on duty.
"No such nonsense should be tolerated in Telangana irrespective of political affiliations," KTR said.
The Musheerabad police then predictably and quickly arrested Ghousuddin on the grounds of obstructing policemen from performing their duty and threatening them.
The police booked a case under Section 353 and 506 of the IPC against the 26-year-old corporator, whose educational qualification is reportedly 7th class.
He was arrested today and remanded.
The incident happened when the local police were asking the business establishments to close their shops in Bholakpur in the city on Monday night (the early hours of Tuesday), and some shop owners indulged in an argument with the police.
Ghousuddin, who was present at the time, allegedly threatened two police constables who were enforcing the closure of the shops past midnight.
A video of the highly inflammatory incident went viral on the social media, drawing widespread criticism and making even the TRS, a staunch ally of the MIM, decide it needed to act.
