Condemning the attack on scribes during the Million March on Tank Bund organized by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TPJAC), journalists affiliated to various unions in the state on Friday took out a rally, and demanded immediate arrest of the guilty.
Journalists affiliated to the Andhra Pradesh Journalists Union (APJU), Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ), Indian Journalist Union (IJU) and Hyderabad Union of Journalists (HUJ), raising slogans and demanding action, took out a rally from Basheerbagh to Ambedkar Statue on Tank Bund. The participants were holding placards and wearing black badges.
Condemning the attack on media crew, APUWJ president D Summa Sunder stated that more than one Outdoor Broadcasting Van was set on fire, 30 cameras were snatched and destroyed by the activists, while 6 scribes were left injured.
Sunder demanded immediate disciplinary action be taken against the attackers and sought compensation for the property destroyed.
APJU president Neelam Dayananda Raju demanded that the organizers should have restrained their activists from resorting to the attacks. He held the organizers responsible for the violence.
Raju demanded that the organizers pay compensation for the loss of cameras, and also for the injured scribes. He appealed to organizers to ensure that such violent incidents are not repeated in future.
APJU members submitted a memorandum to Director General of Police K Aravinda Rao, and appealed to him to arrest the miscreants responsible for violence.
