The first phase of the prestigious Hyderabad Metro Rail project will be operational by December next year.
This was announced by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy while addressing a public meeting after launching the girders on to the Hyderabad Metro Rail pillars at Uppal here on Sunday. He said that the trials on the first phase of the elevated rail project would begin in June 2014 and all the works would be completed as scheduled. He said any delay on the part of the government would attract a penalty of Rs 32 lakh, while the delay by the executing agency L&T would cost it Rs 64 lakh. Therefore, he ruled out the possibilities of any delay in the project.
The Chief Minister said that once completed, the first phase of the Rs. 16,375 crore project would be dedicated to the nation in December next year. Once completed, the three corridors of the metro rail project are expected to carry about 15 lakh passengers every day. Having born and brought up in Hyderabad, he said it was his duty to transform Hyderabad into a world-class city.
Kiran Kumar Reddy also expressed happiness over the completion of two years in office and thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her blessings. He also thanked ministers, party leaders and people for their cooperation.
The Chief Minister also assured that he would bring Krishna waters to Hyderabad by December next year to meet the drinking water needs.
