Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu today reiterated that the Centre would not hinder freedom of expression (of media) as it was a Constitutional right, however he said that the Media was not immune to law & order, and it should disseminate news without compromising on the nation's security and interests.
Inaugurating an orientation programme for journalists, held at the Salar Jung museum and organized by Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ), he said that there should be credibility in news reporting and proper code of ethics should be followed.
Later, Commissioner of Information & Public Relations Naveen Mittal said that the Telangana government was committed to taking care of the welfare of journalists in Telangana. He said that Health cards were being issued to journalists and Rs. 5 lakhs accident insurance benefit was being extended to them under the government's scheme.
K Sreenivas Reddy, Veteran Journalist, Abid Rasool Khan, Chairman AP and TS Minorities Commission, K Amarnath, member-Press Council of India were also present on the occasion.
