The general body meeting of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) scheduled to be held on Saturday has been postponed.
The decision to postpone the meeting was taken by GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain. However, the corporation did not cite the reason for postponing the meeting. "Due to unavoidable circumstances, the Mayor has postponed the 10th ordinary meeting of the corporation," the GHMC said in a communiqué. The next date of the meeting is yet to be decided.
It may be mentioned that the GHMC's general body meeting was held last time about seven months ago on May 19.
The meeting, scheduled on December 15, was expected to be stormy as this was the first meeting after the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen severed its ties with the Congress party. However, both the parties have continued their power-sharing agreement in the GHMC with the MIM holding the Mayor's post and the Congress retaining the post of Deputy Mayor. It was expected that both the parties will target each other in the council over the problems being faced by the people.
Further, Saturday's meeting was expected to be tough for the Congress party as its floor leader Kaleru Venkatesh has resigned to join the YSR Congress party. The ruling party is yet to name a new leader for the post. (INN)
