A Secunderabad court today granted conditional bail to Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) founder-president Manda Krishna Madiga, who was jailed a few days back for leading an unauthorized protest rally.
The court directed the MRPS leader to appear before the Karkhana and Ramgopalpet police stations once every two days.
Upon receiving news of the bail, MRPS activists who had given a state-wide bandh call on Wednesday demanding the immediate release of their arrested leader said that the call would be withdrawn.
On December 17, Manda Krishna Madiga led a "Madiga Million March" to coincide with MRPS leader K Bharathi's memorial meeting. Tension had prevailed as thousands of MRPS activists rushed towards Tank Bund en masse. The police force obstructed the MRPS activists for not having sought the requisite permission for carrying out a rally, and Madiga had been arrested.
Earlier, Telangana TDP and BJP leaders had called on Manda Krishna Madiga in jail and demanded his immediate release while supporting the demand of SC categorisation.
