Alleging that the police were ruling the state of Telangana, Gujarat Vadgam constituency MLA Jignesh Mevani said that the arrest and subsequent jailing of MRPS founder-president Manda Krishna Madiga, who was "only fighting for his and his community's democratic rights", was against the spirit of fairness and justice.
Mevani met with the jailed MRPS leader in the Chanchalguda jail, where the latter is currently being housed, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mevani said that human rights violations had reached their peak in the state, and that all the suppression would only lead to a widespread reactionary movement against the state government.
He added that the Centre, too, would pay the price for the violence carried out against dalits across the nation.
Mevani said that there were plans to take the dalit movement forward on a nationwide scale, and asked the local dalit unions in the state to remain united to present a strong front.
He also said that if the state government was truly supportive of the downtrodden classes and minorities, it must give five acres of land to each dalit family in the state.
