The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen on Monday announced that it would ensure the collapse of Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.
Addressing a crowded press conference at party's headquarters Darulsalaam here, MIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi announced that the MIM was withdrawing support to the Congress Government in the state and also the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance at the Centre. "We have already faxed the letter to the President of India and sought time for appointment," he said. Further, the MIM MLAs would also meet Governor ESL Narasimhan to convey party's decision of withdrawing support to the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.
"We are complelled and forced to take this decision due to the communal behaviour of Kiran Kumar Reddy Government and also the indecisiveness and dilly-dallying attitude of the Centre," Owaisi said. He alleged that Kiran Kumar Reddy has ensured that BJP and Sangh Parivar get strengthened in Hyderabad and surrounding areas. However, he also slammed the government for not withdrawing false cases booked against Muslim youth in the Mecca Masjid blast case.
Thanking UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for giving the MIM an opportunity to be a part of UPA, he said that he took the decision to pull out of UPA "with a heavy heart". "Since the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government is not a secular government anymore, it makes no sense for us to sail with the UPA," he said.
Criticising the Chief Minister in strong words, Asaduddin Owaisi said that he had filled the vacuum created due to the death of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao by encouraging communal elements. "The Congress party, after many years, has found a rightful successor of Narasimha Rao," he said. The way Narasimha Rao allowed the demolition of Babri Masjid by ignoring court orders, Kiran Kumar Reddy allowed the construction of Bhagyalaxmi Temple in violation of High Court orders. He alleged that the temple abutting Charminar was constructed in connivance with the Archaeological Survey of India, which always turned a blind's eye to the construction activity.
The MIM president ridiculed the claim that tarpaulin was erected on the temple on Sunday to restore the status quo of October 30 as ordered by the High Court. He said that a foreman signed the letter sent to the ASI and the Chief Minister directly issued orders asking the authorities to erect tarpaulin. "What is the legal sanctity of that decision? Is the Chief Minister not bound by constitution and law?" he asked.
Stating that the MIM supported the Congress party after the then ruling party Telugu Desam aligned with BJP in 1998, Owaisi said that the Congress party came to power in 2004 due to the wholehearted support of Muslims and the MIM. However, he said that some communal elements started targeting the Muslim community since K Rosaiah became the Chief Minister in 2010. Listing out the communal incidents that took place since 2010, he said although the Muslims were victims in all the cases, the police registered cases against the youth of the minority community and harassed them.
The Hyderabad MP alleged that during Bakrid festival, the Sangh Parivar activists had a free run in Hyderabad and other places in the state with the active support of the police and Animal Husbandry officials. "They attacked minority persons at Shadnagar, Narsingi and many other places in the state and illegally seized cattle (bulls and bullocks) worth nearly Rs. 3 crore in the name of the prevention of cow slaughter. Ironically, the police booked cases against those who were attacked and whose cattle were seized by Sangh Parivar activists," he alleged adding that Muslims in at least 30 villages in Telangana region were not allowed to give sacrifice during Bakrid.
"We cautioned the Chief Minister, in private and in public about these incidents. However, he did not respond to our appeals, and has now also violated the High Court orders. Since this government is licking the feet of Sangh Parivar, we decided that we will not be an ally of the Congress Government," Owaisi said.
When asked by reporters whether his party would join hands with the YSR Congress party, the MIM president evaded a direct reply. "Jagan Mohan Reddy is my friend and Kiran Kumar was my friend. When elections come, we will take a decision on that issue," he said.
Owaisi said that the MIM leaders would tour the entire state, to expose the communal face of the Kiran Kumar Reddy government. "I will go to each and every nook and corner of the state. Now there is no turning back. We are ready for elections even if they take place," he said. (INN)
