Actress Madhavi Latha today lodged a formal complaint with the Movie Artists Association (MAA) and the Telugu Film Chamber against Tadipatri Municipality Chairman J C Prabhakar Reddy.
"Prabhakar Reddy spoke ill of me. It is unacceptable for him to make such allegations. An apology is not enough. I will pursue a legal battle against him," she said.
Latha also said that she had approached MAA because the Telugu film industry had not responded to Reddy's comments about her.
"The industry has not condemned JC's comments. That is why I brought the matter to the MAA. The MAA Treasurer Siva Balaji responded to my phone call. I have informed MAA President Manchu Vishnu too about my complaint," she said.
The actress said that she had filed complaints with the Human Rights Commission and the police, too.
Prior to filing the complaint, the actress took to Instagram detailing her complaint in a post titled "My fight for justice".
The controversy traces back to an incident on December 31 during New Year's celebrations at J C Park in Tadipatri, as part of which a women's event was being held. Madhavi Latha and BJP leader Sadineni Yamini made some remarks about the event which riled up Reddy, who called Madhavi Latha a prostitute. His comments sparked widespread criticism, leading him to issue a public apology.
Despite the apology, Madhavi Latha has vowed to seek justice, expressing disappointment over the lack of support from the film fraternity.
