Vemulawada MLA and Government Whip Aadi Srinivas today reiterated that the Congress government was committed to conducting a caste census for the Backward Classes (BCs), and lambasted BRS working president K T Rama Rao saying that he had no moral right to talk about the BCs.
Speaking to the media at the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) office, Srinivas said, "KTR does not need to lecture us on BC census. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly said that representation should be proportional to the numbers in the population. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has already announced the conducting of a BC census in Telangana. And the BC Census bill has already been passed in the Assembly, and a Government Order (GO) has been issued in this regard. No one has the right to question the commitment of the Congress. Once our party promises something, it will surely fulfill it."
"Why did the BRS government not think of conducting a caste census in the last ten years? And neither the BRS president nor its working president nor its Leader of Opposition in the Telangana Assembly belongs to the BC community," the Congress MLA pointed out. "On the other hand, the Congress has given the PCC chief position to a BC leader, and more opportunities will be provided to the BCs in the future by the party and the government."
He also found fault with KTR for setting deadlines for the State government on the BC census, and asked KTR to stop making hollow statements.
"We will certainly complete the BC census. The High Court has also directed that a report be submitted within three months. We will definitely comply," Srinivas said.
