A delegation of the Kannada Rastra Telangana Association (KRTA) met Karnataka Chief Secretary K Ratna Prabha, IAS, on Saturday, and requested the allotment of a piece of land for constructing a Telangana Bhavan in Bengaluru.
The proposal to establish the Bhavan was prepared by the KRTA members who said that the building would serve as a cultural, social and entrepreneurial activity centre for the Telugu community living in Karnataka.
The Chief Secretary responded positively to the appeal by the KRTA, saying that such a centre would also be helpful in strengthening relations between the two states of Karnataka and Telangana. She said that she would take up the issue with the state government, and forwarded the file to the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
In an interaction with the media, KRTA founder-president Sundeep Kumar Makthala said that the construction of the centre would help boost tourism and cultural exchange, and also help initiate deliberations on various other fronts between the two states for mutual prosperity.
Apart from being a cultural centre, the Bhavan was also being envisioned as a place to set up the Karnataka tourist information centre for Telugu tourists coming to the state, Makthala said. Accommodation for dignitaries, VIPs and tourists visiting Karnataka from Telangana would also be provided within the same space.
Laeders of the association proposed the name Pampana Telangana Bhavan for the building, Pampa being the name of an ancient Kannada poet who hailed from the Bodhan area of Telangana.
E V Sathish Kumar, Sarath Chandra Bairu and Chakinala Rajender were part of the delegation that met with the Chief Secretary along with Makthala.
