Krishna Waters Released Into Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal
The release of the waters will help agricultural activity get into top gear in the ayacut. About 10 lakh acres in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Khammam will get water.
Telangana Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister Anil Kumar Yadav today released Krishna waters to the Left Canal of the Nagarjuna Sagar project.
Heavy inflow of flood waters into the Krishna basin due to the rains of the past two weeks have enabled release of water to the canal, which will help irrigation in the ayacut area for the ongoing Kharif season.
This comes as a major relief to the farmers under the Left Canal ayacut who have been anxiously waiting for the release of the waters to begin transplantation of paddy nurseries.
The release of the waters will help agricultural activity in general get into top gear in the ayacut. About 10 lakh acres in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Khammam districts will get water.
Speaking on the occasion, Jagadish Reddy said that the Telangana government had taken up a gigantic task of diverting the waters of the Krishna and the Godavari rivers to turn arid lands green. He also said that KCR believed in maintaining friendly relations with other States, and that the Andhra Pradesh government was responding suitably.
Anil Kumar Yadav expressed happiness over the two Telugu States maintaining friendly relations for the sake of the welfare of the people of both the States. He also said that it was great that the two States had decided to utilize the river waters for turning dry lands wet instead of allowing the waters to flow into the sea.
Yadav lauded the efforts of KCR for taking decisions to benefit the people of both the Telugu States. He said that AP Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy too was treating KCR as an elder brother and cooperating with the former whole-heartedly.
MPs, MLAs, MLCs, Chairmen of Zilla Parishads and several people's representatives were present at the event.
